Top 5 things I want in my home:


1. World map wall

A place in my home to daydream of adventure. The world map is such a familiar sight that, when it's blown up in to wall paper, it becomes more of a background print.

2. Big and small rugs

Let's fluff things up! I want one big (wool or cotton?) rug in my living room, a smaller fluffy one next to my bed and small sheep skin rugs in my lucite ghost chairs. I guess I just want very room to be a soft, comfy place.

3. Chalk board paint

To jot down 'to do' lists, a line from a favorite song, new recipes or hidden messages from friends. It's either this or a magnet paint wall or surface.

4. Large mirror

A big mirror opens up the space and - not completely unimportant - gives you a full outfit perspective. I had a baroque style one, in gold, and am now looking for a more clean feel.

5.  Mood board

Not at all original for a fashion office, but still I'd like to create a little place to collect beautiful images, happy notes and random scraps along the way.

Last week I gave you a little home tour tour and I'm glad you guys liked it! As I said, there's still a lot to be done to make it more complete and my own. I've made a top 5 of things I want to create in my apartment, with inspiration pictures to visualize them.

A little home tour

As my returning readers know, I'm in the midst - or can you say 'in the midst' if it's an ongoing thing for half a year? - of a home (re)decoration. Since my twin brother moved out last winter, I had an extra (small) bedroom to fill and a new style to create with consistently throughout the entire house. It takes a lot of time, motivation (I often don't get past the 'inspiration moldboard' phase) and money (oops, all spent on clothes, food and traveling) to find the right pieces. So I'm taking it slow. However. Weeks ago I purchased Philippe Starck's Ghost chairs - a total design classic that can easily be transformed to fit different styles. Starck is a great interior designer (I became a fan after sleeping in the a-mazing Sanderson Hotel in London during a press trip. It has little tree stump stools and all). I bought one Ghost chair with and one without arm rests, for a twist, and they reside in my home office and bedroom. Once I started taking pictures of those new lucite lovers I decided to snap some more apartment spots. Decoration disclaimer: it's nowhere near done - will it ever be, though? - but still it's fun to share :)

Home office inspiration

A few weeks ago I declared a mission to fi-nal-ly get my home office up and running (you could already see some apartment improvements here). In my head, I have all these visions of my home office - proof can be found in the very lengthy 'home' folder on my Mac - but I'm finding it difficult to commit the time and effort. Slowly I'm making progress in creating a space where I can be focussed, get creative and feel inspired to work. To get me back on track I compiled a collage of home office images that I wouldn't mind copying one on one. Key is clean, white, with a lot of light, different textures, plenty of art and little personal details. Perhaps it also inspires you in the process of putting together your dream home, or to fantasize about your own little work space.

Home: This chick's got style office

Since you were so excited about seeing my living room, here's a preview at my brand new blog office! 

Now that I have the apartment all to myself, I'm turning the smaller bedroom in to a place to write and work. This is where the magic happens! It was either a walk in closet or this. Being able to shut the door and separate work from my living room really brings piece of mind. Working from home, especially with the different things I do, just makes sense and is one of the benefits of this job. Who knows, I might rent a place later, but right now I'm very pleased. My office is nowhere near being finished, but with just 4 weeks until graduation I'll pick up on decorating afterwards.

Welcome to my home

Totally random, but I just wanted to show you my latest big purchase: a custom built wooden table and wooden picnic bench. (The last is something I always dreamed of having. Now that I do, I feel quite grown up). A big, comfy couch and an inviting dining table are two priorities in decorating my living room and so far I think I've succeeded.

Home, sweet home

After living in my apartment for four years, still in the same interior I bought when I was 17 or18 and moved to Amsterdam, it's time to change things up. I've collected a bunch of photo's that give off a vibe I want to recreate. These are just a few. By no means am I an interior design expert, but these are just some small pointers of what I'd like to take away from each image ;)

1) Mixing metals with wood gives a modern feel.

2) Use curtains to separate spaces.

3) Store your cutlery in pots and vases, right in sight
4) Hang deep picture frames for open storage (or to stall out favorite items!)

5) Seperate flowers often look more modern than a huge bouquet. I especially like them in glass bottles and love the use of lilac in both pictures.

6) Throw some vintage in there, so not everything is new and shiny. It often gives more character.
7) Decorating doesn't get easier than this. Unfinished business - like these lamps or pictures on the floor - has it's charm.
8) Collect personal photo's, inspiring editorials and special souvenirs on a mood board.

9) Hang a favorite piece of clothing on the wall as art - I do this with my favorite dresses.

This summer is exactly four years ago that I moved to Amsterdam, straight out of highschool, and went to the appartment I'm in now. After this time, I feel like it's time for a change in my interior. And as you might have seen before, I like collecting images that inspire me; in fashion and in interior design. These are just some pictures that I like. What would your perfect interior or room look like?

Home, sweet home

One of the things that exudes your personal style has to be the space you live in. That's why I love peeking in to people's homes and wardrobes. And why I collect images like this to inspire me, that I like to show you every once in a while (the first home post that showed you what I liked, was here) As you can tell, I like clean spaces with some personal, quirky touches. And ever since my USA trip I became obsessed with having a booth somewhere in my house at some point.

This morning I tweeted about a super cool tree house - every 8 year olds dream come true. Now that I'm a little older I still wouldn't mind packing my bags and moving in to that large tree house, but my vision of a dream home has changed. As so many girls out there, I like white spaces. Because I want to be able to have a fresh feel, be able to breathe, and have the possibility to change things up. These are some random pictures from my huge stack of inspiration images that I keep in hopes of magically transforming my house. Guidelines: deconstructed or industrial walls, heavy lamps, black, white, hints of color, no clutter, high quality wood and a combination of modern and worn out.
