Top 5 things I want in my home:


1. World map wall

A place in my home to daydream of adventure. The world map is such a familiar sight that, when it's blown up in to wall paper, it becomes more of a background print.

2. Big and small rugs

Let's fluff things up! I want one big (wool or cotton?) rug in my living room, a smaller fluffy one next to my bed and small sheep skin rugs in my lucite ghost chairs. I guess I just want very room to be a soft, comfy place.

3. Chalk board paint

To jot down 'to do' lists, a line from a favorite song, new recipes or hidden messages from friends. It's either this or a magnet paint wall or surface.

4. Large mirror

A big mirror opens up the space and - not completely unimportant - gives you a full outfit perspective. I had a baroque style one, in gold, and am now looking for a more clean feel.

5.  Mood board

Not at all original for a fashion office, but still I'd like to create a little place to collect beautiful images, happy notes and random scraps along the way.

Last week I gave you a little home tour tour and I'm glad you guys liked it! As I said, there's still a lot to be done to make it more complete and my own. I've made a top 5 of things I want to create in my apartment, with inspiration pictures to visualize them.

Fall/Winter 2012 at the H&M showroom

 

I just got out of my chocolate coma from their little lava cakes, so let me briefly take you through my F/W 2012 press day visit at the H&M showroom yesterday. Navy was a pretty dominant color int his collection, and is still a great classy, soft substitute to black. I think I'll be wearing it quite a bit with medium washed jeans, camel, cream, tomato red or even neons. At the core of my fashion heart I'm still a total black lover, so I'll also be looking out for their black items in stores. Fingers crossed they'll stock black, thick, real leather leggings this winter that work as pants (pretty please!).

My top picks are: an pair of gorgeous blue textured trousers (pic 4), a super long navy overcoat that ends at the calfs and would make a spectacular 'private investigator' look ;), the bejeweled white blouse (pic 12) and a metallic reddish purple pencil skirt (pic 10) that would be cool dressed down with a band t-shirt and heels. Accessories were good too, I'm the statement necklaces and earrings and gimme those glitter shoes! What's your favorite so far?

Must read blog: Switcheroo by Hana

Just because it made me grin - and because it's a total streetstyle mindfuck - I felt like blogging about the genius Switcheroo project. I felt it just belonged in the 'must read blog'-category which is more focussed on interior and lifestyle, mixed with some art and random cuteness (yay, because who doesn't like cuteness!).

Looking at these dual portraits from the Switcheroo project I noticed something funny happened in my mind. Everything seems 'normal' when people wear their own clothes and I almost instinctively know what I'm looking at. Once they've switched those, all of the sudden I need a second to get the picture. I'm guessing my brain automatically labels these items as 'female' (a dress with daisies!) or 'male' (over the knee baggy shorts!). And when the gender cues get mixed up so does my head, obviously. Does it have the same effect on you guys? Moving on to a less pseudo-psychological note :P Some girls are really rocking those guys outfits.

Storytelling neons

Deviating from fashion today - ah well, that's what blogs are for, right? - with an art project that I'm currently drawn to. Tim Etchells created these neon signs that tell a story, spell out a message or an intimate piece of conversation. They were displayed on random street corners, roof tops and store windows and I can imagine I'd be completely sucked in if I were walking around town at midnight and would unexpectedly bump in to one of these phrases. As the artist himself puts it: "The viewer becomes implicated in a situation that's never really revealed." 

Love your look

For obvious reasons, anything with glitter cat eye shades deserves my cool vote. Secondly, I just think there's some brilliant styling work going on here. A great play of patterns and different volumes and I always love a boxy top with a mini skirt or sleek trousers. I became familiar with MSGM just recently and think their patterns and cuts are great so I'll surely be eying this Italian brand from now on.

Home office inspiration

A few weeks ago I declared a mission to fi-nal-ly get my home office up and running (you could already see some apartment improvements here). In my head, I have all these visions of my home office - proof can be found in the very lengthy 'home' folder on my Mac - but I'm finding it difficult to commit the time and effort. Slowly I'm making progress in creating a space where I can be focussed, get creative and feel inspired to work. To get me back on track I compiled a collage of home office images that I wouldn't mind copying one on one. Key is clean, white, with a lot of light, different textures, plenty of art and little personal details. Perhaps it also inspires you in the process of putting together your dream home, or to fantasize about your own little work space.

At the press days

 

 I did a little round of press days this week, to check out what will be in stores for fall/winter 2012. Along the way I took some pictures, catched up with some of my friends in fashion and made an imaginary wish list at Rika (obsessed, as usual) (pic 2, 3, 4, 9, 12-14), Oona PR (1, 5-7, 10), Cream PR (8, 11) and UPR.
